Cloud Gallery is pleased to present Shawn Watrous: California Dreaming. June 3 through July 5, 2015. Shawn Watrous’s current work focuses on memory and the mystery of identity and individual experience.

The opening reception will be held on Thursday, June 11th from 5 – 9 p.m.

The elements in Watrous’s painting, the marks, shapes and images are about memory and identity as well as emotion, home, place of origin, time and distance. The work is made through a multimedia process and is based in the layering of three visual motifs: gestural expressionism, geometric abstraction and photobased representation.

“The images and the colors I use come from a childhood spent in California in the 1980s. They are about memory and the mystery of identity and individual experience while living in these strange contemporary times.”

Watrous received his Masters of Fine Arts from Kent State University in 2013. He currently teaches at Penn State University New Kensington, and recently completed a residency at Black Balloon Editions in Cleveland. He has shown nationally, and his work has been featured in numerous films.  Born in San Francisco, he currently lives and works in Springdale, PA.
